MJC – KIKANI School Football match organized by Rotary Club of Coimbatore

We at MJC strive to excel both in studies and in extracurricular activities. So when we got an opportunity to play a friendly match of football with the students of Shree Baladevdas  Kikani Higher Secondary School we were excited. Kikani School is a very reputed school in Coimbatore encourages and supports its students in a wide variety of sports and games. Thus it was a privilege for us to have a friendly match with them at their grounds.

Rtn Krishna Kumar Payal and Rtn Shafiq from Rotary Club of Coimbatore which is the sponsor club of Rotaract and Interact Club of MJC were instrumental in organising this match.  Mr Payal and Mr Shafiq along with few other Rotarians attended the function to cheer our team. They also arranged for sumptuous snacks for us after the game and gifted us three footballs,

The match was held on 30th April 2015 at the Kikani Grounds at 4 pm. Our delegation to Kikani included the full MJC team of 26 girls from grades 8 to 12, our staff Mr. Shyam Trinath, Mrs.Poonam and a few other students from MJC to cheer our players.

The captain of MJC team was Lalitha Lama of class 10, a forward player. The Kikani team for us was a formidable competition and they played really well. Our team on the other hand fought really hard.  Neither team scored any goals during the regular time. So the game had to be decided by penalty shootouts. In this we managed to excel and our team scored eight goals. The opponent team could score only six goals as our goalkeeper did a fabulous job and we emerged victorious. The penalty goals were made by Anne Joseph, Carola(Sanu Khatun), Celesti, Joan, Jill, Lalitha and Spring(Snuti Priya).

The match ended at 5:00 p.m. We were treated with lovely refreshments on our way back. We were back at MJC at 7:30 p.m.

Over all, it was a great experience for all us. We are thankful to the Kikani School, and Rotary Club of Coimbatore for this opportunity and we pray to God that we would get more such opportunities.

Share the Pride with Smritti

I, Smritti Lama Tamang of grade ten tried and succeeded in proving that there are wonders living at the MJC.

I belong to an economically poor family from West Bengal. I joined the centre in 2012 in order to receive education. My father works as a driver and my mother is a housewife. I also have two siblings. The total income of my family was meagre and could not satisfy the costs of my higher education.

My father came to know that Michael Job Centre provided education and accommodation to underprivileged girls and thus decided to send me to MJC for my studies. For me, life before MJC was quite tough. On coming here, I was astonished by seeing the size of the work going on here at the centre. I saw the school and found it unique as students from various states of India were studying here. I found my future in safe hands as I saw two colleges-The Michael Job College of Arts and Science for Women and the Michael Job Memorial College of Education, B.Ed. & M.Ed. ready for my higher education.

The hostel is spacious and full of loving girls living together. I feel that my new home is a beautiful place and I love to stay here. I am extremely grateful to my family and the institution for the constant support given to the students for their studies. I consider myself very lucky to be one among the girls.

I always wanted to do something in return as to show my gratitude. I did so by scoring 94% in her class 10th Board exams with two perfect scores (Centum) in subjects of science, 100/100 and social science, 100/100. I aspire to become a chef in future and am ready to work even harder for that.

I have shown to everyone that the unvarying support given by the world to Michael Job Centre is not going in vain. I want to fulfil the dream of Uncle Dr. P.P. Job, Founder and become a great lady who grew in MJC with the best of values.

Renaissance 15

Renaissance is MJC cultural festival. We started this in 2013 with the idea of giving our children opportunity to learn how to manage an event, compete with their peers, and to have a chance to interact with a broader set of people from the society around.

In the first year this was limited to college students and was organized by the Michael Job College of Arts and Science for Women. In the subsequent year we introduced this at the school level which is organized by Michael Job Matriculation Higher Secondary School.

Following this tradition we organized Renaissance 15 (Senior and Junior) in January this year. The inter-school competitions (Renaissance – Junior) were held on 23rd Jan and inter-college competitions (Renaissance – Senior) on 24th Jan.

Around 150 students from difference schools participated in Renaissance Junior. Competitions were held in the areas of Singing (Solo & Group), Dancing (Solo & Group), Elocution (Tamil & English) Flower Arrangement and so on.
