Renaissance – 16 – Inviting Participation

We are happy to announce “Renaissance 16” MJC cultural festival to be held on 29^th and 30^th of January 2016. On 29^th we will have Renaissance Junior the interschool competitions and Renaissance- Cubs and on 30^th   we will have Renaissance Senior the intercollegiate competitions

Competitions will include Mehendi drawing, Singing (solo and group), dancing (solo and group), rangoli making, elocution (Tamil and English) and painting.

Evolution of Renaissance - MJC CulFest

Renaissance means re-birth, the fest was named so because we dedicated this to our re-awakening. After the untimely death of our founder chairman in 2012, there was a worry among many that MJC would wither away. But we took a vow; that we will not let it happen. Renaissance is an expression of this commitment and confidence.

Renaissance was initiated with an aim to provide our youngsters an opportunity to manage an event, compete with their compatriots, and to have an opportunity to interact with a broader audience from the society around.  We started this in 2013, and it has flourished since then, thanks to our children’s tremendous efforts as well as the support from several well wishers. The fest includes a variety of items ranging from literary to musical; with opportunities for students with ways with the paintbrush and who can tap their feet to the rhythm of the music.

 

The first Renaissance held in January 2013 had participation from 100 students from around 20 colleges who competed with vigor and enthusiasm. First and Second Price winners were rewarded with gold coins sponsored by Chemmanur international jewelers. We had a distinguished panel of judges who selected the winners. The chief guest of the event was Mr. Bobby chemmanur who gave an inspiring speech to our youngsters. Mr. Kishore sodha a renowned trumpeter played at this event for the students and stole their hearts with some popular Bollywood tracks. 

Students of Kongu Nadu Arts and Science College bagged the Rolling Trophy constituted in memory of late Dr P P Job, Founder of MJC.

Renaissance 2014 grew to be a two day event; first being for school students and second for college students. For the Inter- School Event  (Renaissance 14 - Junior) we had participation of 260 Students from 13 Schools. Dr Job Memorial Rolling Trophy for the Overall Championship was bagged by SSVM World School,Vellalore, Coimbatore.

For Inter-College Event (Renaissance 14 - Senior) we had participation of 111 students from 18 Colleges. Dr Job Memorial Rolling Trophy for the Overall Championship was bagged by Angappa College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore

 

Renaissance -15 saw a lot more participants than the previous years. Around 150 students participated in the ‘Junior’ event 90 students from 17 different colleges participated in the ‘Seniors’. The chief guests for the fest were Rev. Jacob Thomas and Rev. James Thomas and the guests of honor were Mr B Vijayan IAS (Retd Chief Secretary of Goa), Ms Devyanni Khobragade IFS and MR Bobby Chemmanur.

The Winner of the Trophy for the intercollegiate event was CMS College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore.

Over the years Renaissance has seen outstanding talent from various schools from all over the state and hope to see a lot more talent in the forthcoming years.

MJC Annual Day

On 14^th November 2015 the Michael Job Matriculation Higher Secondary school celebrated Annual day-cum-Children’s day. The celebrations started at 9:00am with our assembly session where our students gathered with a prayer by our respected teachers Mrs. Susmitha, Mrs. Krishnaveni and Mrs. Reena  Ms. Sakalacitheshwari presented Thought for the, Ms. Vanitha read Thirukkural and Mrs. Malika sang a song. All these activities by the teachers inspired the students.

Our Chief Guest Mr. Masilamani B.Sc., M.A, and the Guest of Honour Mrs. Dr. R. Jayaprabha M.A., M.Ed., M.Phil., PhD visited the pavilion set up by our students to see the science models made by our students. The students enthusiastically demonstrated their models to the dignitaries. There was also an Art & Craft exhibition of various handy works of the students. The Guests appreciated the students for their hard work and they took time to listen to the students.

Three children from our school, Anne Joseph, Praveena B. and Preethika C. of class 11^th assisted and interacted with the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour in the science, art and craft exhibition.

The Annual day celebrations were at 10:00am in the John Job Auditorium which started with the choir singing by our class 11^th students. Our Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour Mrs. Dr. R. Jayaprabha together with the principals of all the three MJC educational institutions lighted the inaugural lamp.

        The Principal of our school Mrs. Krishna Priya welcomed our Chief Guest, the Guest of Honour and other special invitees with flower bouquets and mementos. Inspiring speeches were delivered by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour.

        There were many programs beginning with the welcome dance, Bharatanatyam by the students of class 11^th, group dance by Kinder Garden children and a solo dance by our talented student Gayathri of the 4^th class, Fashion show was conducted by the 1^st to 3^rd class students, Classical Kannan dance was performed by the 4^th to 6^th class students and a skit based on a Shakespeare play was performed by the 8^th to 11^th class students. A mime with a theme of ‘Save Water’ was and played by the 7^th and 8^th class students.

        On this day the students were awarded with prizes for the various competitions held on the founder’s day. A small trophy was given to the proficiency holders of each class beginning from LKG to XII standard. The programs came to an end with a vote of thanks speech by our student of class 12^th and students sang the National Anthem.

Overall the day was a great success with the support of principals, HOD’s, parents, staff members and students as all of them took interest gave us support.

Wild Life Week Celebrations @ MJC

Wild Life Week is an initiative by Wild Life Federation to expose children to wonders of nature and wild life. It is celebrated in the first week of October every year by organizing some special activities connected with the wild life conservation.

In connection with 'Wild Life Week' celebrations at MJC Dr.G.Nithya Organizing Secretary, Ms.Pratheeba and Ms.Bannari, Co-ordinators, Department of Zoology, Michael Job College of Arts and Science for Women organised various competitions like Drawing, Oratorical and Essay writing on 05.10.2015 and 06.10.2015 in our college premises. Around 25 students from various departments participated in the competitions. 

The essay writing and oratorical competitions were structured to encourage originality of thought of the students. The judges for the essay and oratorical competitions were Ms.Gokilavani and Ms.Suganthi.

The drawing competition similarly brought out their creativity and demonstrated high level of awareness among the students. The title for drawing competition was “Wild Life”. Dr.Vijayalakshmi judged the paintings of our students and kept their spirits high.   

The valedictory function of “Wild Life Week” was celebrated on 07.10.2015 in our Seminar hall, IT building. As a part of the function students of Zoology department enthusiastically participated and were dressed as animals who invited our guests by giving wild life awareness notices. The celebration was blessed with the presence of guests of honour Dr.N.Ezhilarasi, Asst.Professor, Govt.ArtsCollege, Coimbatore, Dr.D.Rajmohan, Asst.Professor, Kongunadu Arts and Science College,Coimbatore  and Mr.Ramesh Arumugam, Secretary, GEM Trust as guest of honour Mr.Babu.P.Varu, Trustee and Dr.Lali Thomas, Principal MJCAS.

The celebration started with a prayer song followed by the lighting of the lamp by our trustee Mr.Babu.P.Varu, Dr.Lali Thomas, Principal, our Guests of Honour for the day and Vice Principal Ms.S.R.Dhanalakshmi. Welcome address was given by Ms.Soumia of I M.Sc Zoology. All the dignitaries on the dais were presented with mementos by our Zoology faculties. 

The key note address was delivered by our Chief Guest Dr.N.Ezhilarasi on the topic “THRETANEND BIRDS OF INDIA.” She spoke about the various types of birds and their habitats and gave some valuable ideas to protect the wild birds and animals. After her address around 10.45am, refreshment was given to the gathering.  Dr.D.Rajmohan presided

over the event and gave a lecture on the topic “WE AND WILD”. In his speech, he explained the importance of wildlife for healthy environment. By 11.30am our Guest of honour, Mr.Ramesh Arumugam, discussed about the environment and solid waste management.
                                                                                     
Our guests visited the models displayed by our Zoology department students. Around twenty five models were presented by the students and they explained in detail about their project to the guests and the visitors. Their work exhibited their interest in conserving the biodiversity.

The event was followed by prize distribution for the various competitions regarding wild life week. In the Oratorical competition (English) the first prize was bagged by Ms. Protima Kami from III year BA English Literature. She was followed by Ms.Vimala from III year BA English Literature. In the Oratorical competition (Tamil) the first prize was

bagged by Ms.C.Baghyalakshmi from IInd year B.Sc Zoology followed by Ms.M.Ramya from Ist year BA Tamil Literature. In the essay writing competition (English) first prize was won by Ms.Smyrna Karjee from IInd year BA English Literature and second prize by Ms.V.Gowri of II B.Sc Zoology. In the essay writing competition (Tamil) first prize was won by Ms.G.Nivetha of II nd year B.Sc Zoology. She was followed by S.Gayathri of IInd year  B.Sc Zoology. In drawing contest, Ms.K.Saranya of Ist year B.Com (CA) won the first prize and she was followed by Ms.Nilima Mukhiya of IInd year BA English literature.  


Ms.Gowri of IInd year B.Sc Zoology delivered the Vote of thanks. At last honorable guests planted trees in the college campus. Ms.SaraJose, IIIrd year B.Sc Zoology and Ms.Sowmia, Ist year M.Sc Zoology were the master of ceremony. The function concluded with the National sAnthem.

MJC Students on Educational Visit to Sulur Post Office

At MJC we have have been taking a conscious effort to widen exposure of our girls by providing an insight into a wide range of professional possibilities. India Postal Department has come out with a recruitment drive and some of our students have decided appear for the entrance examination.

In the light of this interest in this career opportunity 16 of our interested College  girls went  to Sulur Post  Office to understand the activities of the postal department.  Mr S. Devaraj,  the Postmaster warmly welcomed the children.  He directed Mrs. Ramya  K,  Postal Assistant  Clerk  to give a brief She  gave a  helpful introduction of  the  Post  Office  and  its  functions.  It was an interactive  session  in English where the students were able to answer questions put forth.  Later  Mrs. T Jhansi, GTS MD took over.

Mr S. Devaraj then took  time from his hectic saturday schedule to personally give the students a tour of the office and its various counters. The students  for the  first  time  came  to  know   the  difference between ordinary post, speed post  and registered post  with their respective costs. He  also explained  the various  Saving  Schemes provided  by  the  Postal  department.

For  half  an  hour,  Mr  S Devaraj  explained  in  length the  various schemes  available for  the  common  man  such  as - Monthly Income Scheme [MIS], Senior Citizen Saving Scheme Accounts[SCSS], Small  Saving Scheme Account [SSS], Sukanya Samrithi Scheme, Kisan Vikas Patra  etc. The  students also  interacted  by  asking  questions  and clearing their  doubts.  He  also introduced  staff  who  joined  as ordinary  postwomen and  have now  have reached  great  heights. Mr.S. Devaraj  gave  himself  as living  example -  he too  joined  as  an ordinary  postman  and  is  now  the Post Master  of Sulur. He  stressed upon  hard  work,  sincerity  and determination. He  also encouraged the  college  girls  by  giving  a  vivid picture  of  the  past  postal scenario  with  the  present, for example previously the  postman  had to walk on  improper  roads  and cycles  were  expensive  to purchase but  now  you can deliver  letters on  a  two-wheeler  which  makes your daily  trips  quicker, easier  and  less  tiring.

Photographs  were  taken.  Everyone  enjoyed  themselves. It  was strongly  felt by  the  students  that  there  should  be  more  of  such educational  trips  in the  near  future  for  more  exposure,  better understanding   and  for better development of  the  girls.

This  Postal visit  was  a  great  exposure  for  all, both students  and  staff. We thank   Mr S  Devaraj, Sulur Post Master  and  his  staff  for  taking  time  to encourage  the  girls  and  to equip  them  with  relevant  knowledge.  We thank Dr Lali Thomas,  Mr  Joseph  Elias, Mr  P V  Kuruvila, Mr Lijo  John and Ms Dorothy Lawrence for  their  support.

Virtual Class Room at MJC

The Vision of MJC is to “Empower the Girl Child through Education” Fore us “empowerment” means helping our students to make a quantum leap in their social standing; arresting the cycle of poverty for her and coming generations who can stand on their own legs. The key requirement for this is the quality of education, breadth of exposure and inputs for total personality development.

We face a big challenge in this journey. The challenge of our affordability and availability of faculty, counsellors and advisers who could take education to a different level.

Virtual Class Room

Thanks to Ms Jayne Bagwell we now have a solution. We have established a Virtual Class Room with a broadband connection, a computer and a projector. Through Skype we are able to have guest lectures from exceptionally qualified and committed professionals from around the world.

Dr Lovneesh Chanana Director Government Services, SAP along with Mr Sashidhar Danturti Sr Manager Cap Gemini have been kind enough to do a full course on RDBMS for the graduate students.

Ms. Mitu Ray Choudhary

Ms Mitu Ray Choudhary Manager Ernst & Young has been a great help in doing a full course on Corporate Accounting for our graduate students. In addition to Corporate Accounting she also gave quite a lot of guidance for our students on how to face interviews and how to participate in group discussion.

Mr. Santosh Adsul

Mr Santosh Adsul Sr Consultant, Ernst & Young took a full course on Visual Programming. He also has been advising us on modernizing our IT infrastructure.

We were lucky to have Dr Vanita Vaidyalingam, IRS (Retd)to do a lecture on Linguistics & Phonetics to augment the English classes

Harishankar S Chief General Manager Of State Bank gave spoke to our children about Career Opportunities in Banking and how to prepare for it.

We got on opportunity to have Mr Markus Zurcher, of Axa life who is one of our key supporters speaking to our children motivating them.

We are excited about this new medium and believe that this will be a game changer for MJC in the coming years.

We look forward to volunteers who can join us on Skype and share their experience, wisdom and knowledge to our children

Teachers day with a Difference

We celebrated our ‘Staff  Day’ on 4^th September 2015 with a difference. In the morning session the students took the role of the teachers and  and conducted classes both in School as well as in College.

 In the afternoon at around 1:45 all the staff members gathered at the MJMHSS and proceeded to the Auditorium accompanied by with band music. At the auditorium they were welcomed with a rose and card prepared by the students.

Cultural programmes started at 2:30 with a prayer song by Sabina choir. Ms. Joan of Class XII welcomed the gathering. There were four dance performances by school students and college girls.

Ms. Roja Jasmine, Staff of MJC and Dr. D.Devaneesan Sanjeevi, Principal of Michael Job College of Education spoke to the gathering. A PowerPoint presentation on all the MJC Staff members was made by the MJC students and it was the highlight of the Staff day programme .

All of us had tea and snacks together. All the staff members were presented with mementos. Vote of thanks was given by Dr. D.Devaneesan Sanjeevi, Principal of Michael Job College of Education. The programme ended with National Anthem.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT MJC

15^th August is  the Independence Day of India. The day commemorating day that India got freedom from the British rule. We at MJC joined the nationwide celebration  by organizing a short program.

The program began at 7 a.m. with the hoisting of the National Flag by Mr. Kuruvilla P. Varghese, the Manager Operation of MJC. It was followed by two speeches by Simantha and Srijana of grade 12. The speeches were in Hindi and English respectively.

Mrs. Vimala, vice-principal (MJ School) spoke eloquently and she encouraged the students to study hard and become an independent individual of independent India.

A patriotic song was also presented by the students of the 12^th grade. The program concluded at 8 a.m. with the distribution of toffees among the students.

Tejaa Shakti Institute of Technology a reputed Engineering College for women as a part of their INDRIA’15 Project organised inter-school competitions which attracted wide participation from many schools from Coimbatore.
