Ms Earth visits MJC

MJC had the privilege of having at our campus Ms. Rachel Fikes Ms Earth 2016 and current Executive Director of Mrs. And Ms. Earth Organisation from USA and Ms. India Earth 2016 and Jaya Mahesh who hails from Coimbatore to meet our students and spend time with them. These two days were totally action packed will remain in the memory of MJC always. Amidst the electrifying atmosphere, MJC collectively gave them a grand welcome.  

Our girls organised a grand cultural event to make their visit a memorable one! Group dances were performed by girls of all ages.

With view to stimulate their creativity and to make them aware of recycling and protection of their environment a fashion show was organised. The costumes were created by the girls, using old newspapers and eco-friendly used articles like paper cups etc.

A hair braiding completion was also held where all these youngsters seemed to be so equally good that the judges had a tough time selecting the winner.

The children were pleasantly surprised when Ms. Jaya, who is a classical dance artist,   stepped onto the stage to teach a few steps to the performers. This elated the children  and they cheered away with excitement and happiness.

Ms. Rachel played throw ball with the MJC Champions. This was an inspiration for the girls and they enjoyed every moment of the game

Ms. Rachel shared with the children, her life’s journey so far and spoke about how her inner strength has enabled her in being the individual that she has evolved into. Racheal conveyed the message beautifully, by sharing her life story using her pictures as a tool. MJC witnessed that how her thoughts and story have pumped our kids with exuberance.

Ms. Jaya also shared her thoughts with the children and her speech was truly motivational. The children could relate to her very closely because she is from their home city of Coimbatore. Her grace and compassion enthralled the audience

On the next day, Ms. Rachel conducted a session with the senior girls from MJC on Creative writing. It was a very engaging activity wherein all the girls participated. 

The pictures speak for themselves. Our students enjoyed thoroughly and, it has been a memorable experience for them. We are grateful to Ms. Rachel and Ms. Jaya for having come over to our campus and spend time with us.

At the end of her visit Ms Rachel acknowledged that MJC is one of the most impressive institutions among those she has visited around the world. We are all proud of this appreciation.

Moment of Pride

Continuing the trend of high scores and Top Ranks, 8 students from MJC Arts and have secured Ranks in the Bharathiar University of Tamil Nadu. The success rate of MJC has only got better this year.

This is a cumulative result of all the initiatives that our faculty have taken through out the year to ensure that the students not only have a better understanding of their lessons but also have a better appreciation of the syllabus.

Renaissance - 16 MJC Cultural Festival

Renaissance is our cultural festival held every year. It is a time when all the three educational institutions of MJC come together to organize this cultural program that gives an opportunity for our children to organize such an event and also participate and compete with their compatriots from different schools and colleges from Coimbatore.    

  

Renaissance was started in 2013 and over the last three years it has grown to a prestigious event in Coimbatore attracting participation from a number of colleges and schools.

The Inter-School Competitions were held on the 29^th January 2016 the Inter-Collegiate Competitions were held on the 30^th January 2016.

Fancy Dress

The Inter-School event had separate competitions for primary school children and higher secondary school children. Competitions for the toddlers were Book Reading, Dance, Puzzle Solving and Fancy Dress. Competitions for senior students included Dance, Music, Drawing& Painting and Elocution. Around 180 students from 16 schools participated in the competitions.

Mr Dinesh Tyagi IAS (Retd) who is currently the CEO of CSC –SPV Limited and Dr V P Joy IAS Joint Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat and his wife Ms Sheeja Joy were the dignitaries present for the day. Their speeches were very motivating for the children and the faculty members.

The overall Championship Trophy was bagged by GRD-CPF MHSS Neelambur.

Inter Collegiate Competitions included Dance, Elocution, Music Rangoli &Mehandi. 160 participants from 18 colleges made the competitions really exciting. 

C.M.S College of Arts, Science and Commerce was the winner of the Michael Job Memorial Rolling Trophy.

Guest Lecture at MJC by Sister Maria Thersa

As a part of the student development programme of the Michael job College of arts and science for women on 12^th February, 2016 Dr Vijayalakshmi organised for guest lecture by Sister Maria Thersa, Principal, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Karumathampatti.

Sister. Maria Thersa gave a motivating lecture to fill the young minds with aspiration. She explained the importance of Self Motivation and Self Confidence as essential ingredients for success.  The session was very interactive and to make the session interesting she asked some questions on general knowledge to the students. She give presents to the students who answered the questions correctly.

The children enjoyed this session very much and we are very thankful to Sister Maria for sparing her time and exposing our children to many ideas.

MJC students visit Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park

           On 12^th December 2015 all the first year UG students from MJCAS, a total of  166 students from all disciplines along with seven members of the teaching faculty visited the Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park (NBNP) which is located at Anaikatti, about 32km from Coimbatore. This was an initiative to give broad exposure to our students about the world around them, especially for making them aware of preservation of nature and its wealth.

We started from MJC at 10.10am and reached Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park, the destination at around 12.30pm.  The Nilgiri Biosphere Nature Park is an initiative of the Coimbatore Zoological Park Society (CZPS) established in the 1986 to promote conservation of the fauna and flora of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The Nilgiri Biospehere Nature Park (NBNP) is registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.

The main objective of visit NBNP is to create awareness among the students regarding the natural heritage of the Nilgiri biosphere. A Zoo at the NBNP is aimed at attracting people to this location. Since its establishment, NBNP has successfully restored and helped growth of many different vegetation types - over 430 species of 25,000 plants of which 85 species are found only in NBR. It is interesting that nearly 30% of these 85 species are endangered.

NBNP's collection of threatened plant species has been recognized by the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Lucknow and Botanical Garden Conservation International (BGCI), UK. There is a nature trail (about 1.2 km) at the NBNP on which the visitor can experience the joy and thrill of seeing some of the rare plants, birds, snakes, butterflies and insects.  There are over 100 species of birds, 20 species of reptiles, 22 species of amphibians, 18 species of mammals, and 300plus invertebrates. NBNP’s initiative is actively supported and promoted by well known industrialists and philanthropists of Coimbatore. Three guides helped us to visit the farm, followed by lunch. We reached back at MJC at 5.00pm.   

This was a great experience for our students.
